Police Families Welfare Society (PFWS) is a parent body which oversees the welfare activities of Delhi Police Families. It is a non-profit organization and had been diligently putting efforts in empowering youth and women with meticulous planning. Its social initiative PFWS Mission Olympics Wajifa is a small and honest effort towards national contribution of Mission Olympics-20020. It planned a community event today i.e. 18.11.2017 at Sports Ground, NPL to celebrate the final selection & declaration of results of “PFWS-Mission Olympics-2017” after the conclusion of selection process of police wards under six disciplines i.e. Athletics, Badminton, Football, Kabaddi, Shooting & Wrestling. The total number of children who participated in the screening process were 82 of Phase-I and 152 of Screening-II of the Mission. In order to build up the sporting talent amongst the wards of the police personnel, this sporting excellence programme was launched early this year. The star of the event, Chief Guest, Shri Vijender Singh, eminent Boxer, Arjuna Awardee & Olympic Medalist apart from special invitees, Shri Lalit Mathur, an International player & Olympian, Mrs. Manju Sree Rao, Director, SAI, Karani Singh Shooting Range, Tuglakabad, Delhi & Mrs. Asha Aggarwal, an Arjuna Awardee & National Record Holder (Athletics), Deputy Director, Education, GNCT graced the function. Few other important sports personalities who attended the function were namely Shri Rajiv Tomar, eminent Wrestler & an Arjuna Awardee, Commonwealth & Asian Gold Champion & Mr. Harjeet Singh, National Champion (Badminton), Shri Ankur Mittal, Shotgun player & Commonwealth & World Cup Gold Medalist in Shooting, Shri Tirath Raj, Captain Indian Team & Gold Medalist (002 times) Asian Games in Kabaddi and Shri Sanjay Singh, an International player & coach of Football were invited to motivate our players and especially children of lower rank staff who do not have much facilities to support their wards in any field of sport. Further, a number of International players and gold medalists came forward to support us as external coaches in the selection process participated in the event. Dr. Sushi Singh, Vice President, PFWS welcomed Chief Guest and Chief Patron, Commissioner of Police, Delhi, who was kind enough to be present for the entire event including felicitation of achievers and guests. Spl. CP(L&O-North), Spl. CP (AP), Joint CP/NR, Joint CP/AP and other officials of North-West District & DAP, Addl. DCsP/Mentors alongwith Welfare officials attended the function. In the welcome note Dr. Sushi Singh, Vice-President also outlined the vision of PFWS Mission Olympics-2017. The goal of this sporting excellence programme is to create and build up the talent within the police families and provide them sufficient support so as to equip them with the necessary skills for national and international participation with this culmination in Olympics. This distant dream would be possible with the everlasting support of all stakeholders, members of philanthropists and overall support by the patron of PFWS Shri Amulya Patnaik. Shri Vijender Singh was extremely happy to be a part of this programme and wished all the participants good wishes for future success in all six disciplines of sports. He requested PFWS to consider inclusion of Boxing which is a favourite sport of Delhi and Haryana and is also a good form of self-defence apart from being an exciting sport. He also requested Commissioner of Police to examine the possibilities of direct recruitment of sports persons as Gazetted Officers in order to give a boost to sporting activity and requested Vice-President, PFWS to get it implemented by 2018. CP, Delhi was extremely gratified with the sincerity and systematic approach of PFWS office bearers and senior lady wives who have given their valuable commitment to make this programme a reality. He appreciated the professional approach of the welfare wing in harmonizing the different contributions made by all the stakeholders, especially, DAP and districts. He promised to look into the possibility of including boxing and other disciplines in 2018 and also further examine the recruitment policy by headquarters so as to enable the sports persons join Delhi Police as requested by Olympian, Shri Vijender Singh. Smt. Suchana Patnaik, President, PFWS said that though we know we miles to go but with meticulous planning and close monitoring, we shall achieve the desired. The families of participated wards were excited to share the experience of quest for sporting excellence by young children. Dignitaries and eminent sports personalities shared their valuable experiences to motivate the participants. The Event concluded with declaration of the Results by Inspr. K.P. Rana, Inspr./PFWS-Mission Olympics and a total number of 157 children (Athletics-19, Badminton-18, Football-32, Kabaddi-53, Shooting-24, Wrestling-11) were finally selected as a result of two screenings done in Phase-I. This provided the final group of talent which will be further nurtured for higher degree of excellence to bring laurels in national and international events. The function ended with the vote of thanks by DCP/Welfare.
